Another killer disease that comes from smoking is emphysema, which is greatly on the increase today. In fact, a recent report from medical authorities in Washington shows that as many as half of all adult American men are suffering to some degree from emphysema.
In this disease the tars, nicotine and other destructive poisons of tobacco lodge in the small air sacs of the lungs, causing the sac walls to become very thin or to break down entirely, so that the blood is no longer able to exchange poisonous carbon dioxide for life-giving oxygen.
The victim dies of oxygen starvation … he is slowly smothered to death from within. Emphysema is not a quick killer. It creeps up on a smoker.
At first there is a slight cough especially on arising … then it becomes a cough that plagues the smoker day and night. Slowly but surely the air sacs of the lungs are almost completely destroyed. The victim does not die suddenly, but lingers on in a steadily deteriorating condition.
He is forced to be near an oxygen tank because the disease is shutting off his supply of life-giving oxygen. Finally, when the lungs cannot operate any longer even to take in pure oxygen, the victim, dies.
Our breath is our life. We can live days without water and weeks without food … but we can live only minutes without air. Air is the very first essential in our existence. And it is the oxygen in the air we breathe that is the greatest purifying force in Nature … to get this oxygen into the lungs and the bloodstream, we must breathe it in.
Smoking tobacco is against every Natural Law . . and when you attempt to break a Law of Nature, the Law will break YOU.
The heart needs a large amount of oxygen to function. Any disease that diminishes the supply of oxygen is going to destroy the health of your heart, lungs and entire body.
